How to get involved
The ASR will provide a great opportunity for spine surgeons to contribute to the continued safety and quality of spine surgery in Australia.
Once the database is mature, registry staff will be able to provide individual surgeons with an annual report providing numbers of each procedure and other measures. These reports will be entirely for your benefit, and the results will not be made public. The only public report will be a summary document of all procedures across Australia.
If you are interested in contributing your patient data to the registry, the first steps are to become a member of the Spine Society of Australia and to complete the surgeon registration form.
Following the submission of your registration form, the registry coordinator will contact you to confirm your interest and details. The registry coordinator will then begin the ethics application to your hospital site by liaising with the nominated Human Research Ethics Committee.
Once ethics approval is obtained, registry staff will train you and your staff on how to use the registry software and will send you a registry pack which will include patient flyers and a registry poster; these items will help to align your practice with the registry.
